Longmoor + Woolmer Forest

It had been a while since I had seen what was about at Longmoor, so I headed down there early to have a look around.

A Green Woodpecker was on a tree next to the path, and I heard a Cuckoo calling- a species I haven't seen here before.

I walked along the path a bit further, in hopes of seeing the Cuckoo, and it didn't take too long before one flew across the path, up into a tree to the left. Unfortunately, it flew off, with another one, before I could get any photos. On the heath nearer the A3, there were a few Woodlark calling, along with some Linnets and a Stonechat.

Lots of birds were calling, but not showing, including Tree Pipit, Dartford Warbler, and again at least one Cuckoo. I sat down to have some breakfast, taking in the great view.

I finished breakfast and walked around a bit more, but all that was seen was a Great Spotted Woodpecker.

On the other side of the path, a few Yellowhammers were calling, but nothing else could be found, so I decided to head over the A3 into Woolmer.

A few Swallows flew over as I headed towards the pond, where there were all the normals, with good numbers of Swallow and Sand Martin at the back. A Blue Tit was close to the fence as I headed round to the cottage, and a Red Kite was circling behind the pond.

At the cottage, a few Chaffinches and Chiffchaff were singing, as were a few Garden Warblers. Looking at the pond from the cottage, a Black-headed Gull was present, and a bird I've not seen at this site before, a Grey Wagtail. I've seen them plenty of times before at Longmoor, but not here.

With the flags down, I headed through the gate to the woods, and two Egyptian Geese were on the field.

A bit further round, a Grey Heron was visible on the pond, and a Cuckoo was calling from the woods.

A few Swifts flew overhead, and a Song Thrush was singing.

At the top of the hill, I could hear a few Woodlark, and a couple of Meadow Pipits and Tree Pipits were about.

I headed back towards the cottage for a bit more looking around, which produced the usual two Hobbies, but unfortunately, my bike was having some problems (the pedal had come loose and was threatening to fall off!), so I had to ask Dad to come and pick me up.

While I waited, I had another look in the cottage, where the female Mallard and her ducklings seemed to be doing very well.

I walked over to the Greatham Roundabout, where there was a Blackcap and a Firecrest. Nothing else was around, and Dad arrived, so the trip came to an end.

It had been nice to be back at Longmoor, and cool seeing the Grey Wagtail. Hopefully, something interesting will turn up soon.
